The Spanish Napoleonic Wars, also known as the Peninsular War, were a series of conflicts fought in the Iberian Peninsula from 1808 to 1814. The war was primarily between the French Empire, led by Napoleon Bonaparte, and the Iberian nations of Spain and Portugal, supported by the United Kingdom. The conflict began when Napoleon invaded Portugal and later Spain, deposing the Spanish king and installing his brother Joseph Bonaparte on the throne. The Spanish and Portuguese forces, aided by the British Army, fought a series of battles and campaigns, ultimately leading to the defeat of Napoleon's forces and the restoration of the Spanish monarchy.
