The 5th New York Regiment, also known as Duryee's Zouaves, was a volunteer infantry regiment that served in the U.S. Army during the American Civil War. Founded on April 12, 1861, by Colonel Abram Duryee, the regiment was known for its colourful Zouave uniforms and high tactical proficiency. They participated in significant battles, including the Peninsula Campaign and the battles of the Wilderness and Fredericksburg, where they were recognized for their bravery and discipline.
